The Rack

Everything needs a place to live. To keep things clean and organized I decided to go with a Raising Electronics 4 Post Open Frame 15U Rack ($140). It is fairly easy to assemble, and the depth of the front/back rails can be adjusted if needed.

In my case, I bolted the frame down to some 2x4 supports in order to get the assembly off of the basement floor. I’m paranoid about water, and like to keep all sensitive items off of the basement floor, or in protective totes in case of flooding.

I also purposefully went with a “smaller” 15U Rack as a way to limit the amount of stuff I can even have. This rack was purchased as a fully planned out and staged renovation of the Homelab. The main idea was to downsize and modernize. My previous setup was accumulating too much old stuff stacked on top of each other. It was neither modern, efficient, nor organized.
